POETRY, PROSE, AND POLITICS

Fiction, serious reality, and at times their interaction.

THE ABSENCE OF VOICES

If there were no voices,

who would grunt?

or scream?

or laugh?

or cry?

or sing?

tell the truth or lie?

Who would discuss

history or the future?

or science or math or logic?

What about poetry or prose?

the babble of languages?

the sounds of other animals?

barking, mooing, buzzing?

The silence would be deafening!

The world would lose its music.
